Salford Valve Company, or Salvalco, is looking to lessen the environmental impact of aerosols by replacing traditional hydrocarbon propellants with inert gases or fresh air. The innovation lies within their family of Eco-Valves that work across numerous consumer products such as air fresheners, deodorants, and sun creams.
FWT’s total £4.68m investment in Salvalco, with first investment in April 2018, has supported the development and commercialization of the technology, including research and further product development. WAE has supported the design and optimisation of future valve concepts.
The widespread adoption of Salvalco technology in aerosols would have a major positive impact on the global environment, and in the aerosol supply chain, where the current volatile and flammable propellants are costly to store and transport. In December 2021, Nivea launched Eco Deo with Salvalco’s Eco Valve technology which has spearheaded the company’s entry into the market.
