WILLIAMS ADVANCED ENGINEERING CONTINUES SUPPORT FOR STANFORD SOLAR CAR PROJECT WITH ENGINEERING WORKSHOPS

WAE held a series of engineering workshops this week for a team from Stanford University who are preparing to compete in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in 2017.

The Stanford Solar Car Project (SSCP) is one of America’s top undergraduate solar car teams in the world. The project began in 1989 as an entirely student-run, non-profit organisation fuelled by its members’ passion for environmentally-minded technology. The team designs, builds, tests, and races solar-powered vehicles as part of a global competition called the World Solar Challenge, a 3000-kilometre marathon across the Australian Outback.

WAE has been working with the team to develop a competitive new solar car for the 2017 race, which takes place October 8-15. The students visited the Williams headquarters in Grove, Oxfordshire, for a two-day workshop with a selection of WAE employees, who provided insights in aerodynamics, composites, vehicle dynamics, programme management and vehicle integration and instrumentation.

Whilst at Williams, the students also had an exclusive tour of the team’s Formula One facilities and the Williams Heritage Collection – one of the world’s largest collections of Formula One cars.
