PHLUX

Sheffield University spin out, Phlux has developed an avalanche photodiode (APD) that is the key component within infrared sensor used in LIDAR systems. The developments made by Phlux improve the signal to noise ratio resulting in 10X increased sensitivity of the sensor, without increasing the production costs. Phlux’s technology can be a critical enabler for industries such as autonomous driving, increasing the range of vision in all weather conditions, improving the safety of this technology. The company has the ambition to become the Nvidia of the sensor market.

FWT invested £500K into the company as part of a £3 million round lead by Octopus Ventures, in November 2022. This funding will be used to accelerate the company’s route to market and enable them to deliver their future product road map. WAE, with its valuable connections in the automotive space, will be able to support the company with introductions to potential customers, as well as support with design and testing of the front-end electronics in the company’s product roadmap.
