An opportunity has arisen for Lead Engineer – Vehicle Integration to join our INTV team in a rapidly expanding and exciting work environment.
Following the acquisition by FFI, WAE continues to develop and industrialise high performance electrification power systems and vehicle systems, across a broad spectrum of sectors.
The role of the Lead Engineer – Vehicle Integration is to perform a Technical Lead role, making key technical decisions on project success. This role remit will technically lead decarbonising heavy industry projects from the earliest feasibility studies, through the cascade of customer requirements, collaborating with systems-engineers to design and develop systems and ultimately will follow-through to final engineering sign-off; ensuring appropriate validation & verification is put in place to guarantee quality product development.
Job role:
- Ability to cascade complex requirements into multi-faceted objective targets.
- Rationalise requirements against true customer usage, recommending revisions that are also consistent with technology evolution and changing customer needs.
- Lead initial architecture selection to support attribute target setting.
- Recommend solutions to challenging attribute trade-offs, proposing total-product solutions.
- Consult with PMO and System Leads on design and release activities when considering design alternatives.
- Mentor and review work of junior engineers, assisting with their professional and competency development.
- Generate high level DVPs and critique design validation activities to confirm they are appropriate, thorough and realistic.
- Awareness of project risks, able to propose mitigation activities to maximise the likelihood of a smooth DV phase.
- Anticipate problems during product launch phase, putting triggers in place for early identification and contingency plans to facilitate quick reaction/response.
- Optimise the transfer of knowledge from other programmes, chairing lessons learnt at a project and departmental level.
- Innovate design and durability assessment methods to deliver robustness and reliability with minimal cost and weight.
- Anticipates pending approach in customer or internal meetings, preparing standard Q+As with informed and considerate responses.
- Resolve escalated issues in project teams including technical, cost, time and resource.
- Lead a range of team experiences such as project reviews, project updates, customer facing situations, faults or general team building activities.
- Manage DFEMA and DVP on assigned projects.
- Anticipate problems likely to occur and put revisions/triggers in place to reduce the likelihood of occurrence or repercussions.
- Manage internal stakeholder and external client expectations through gateways and project reviews.
- Develop proposals for bids in collaboration with Commercial teams.
- Propose research strategies to keep WAE at the forefront of innovation.
- Anticipates key requirements for implementation of a new method, process or policy, consulting senior leaders for buy in on a change management process.
You’ll have:
- Experience in either the automotive, motorsport, off-highway or aerospace industries.
- Experience leading a project team to deliver a multi-discipline project is essential.
- An engineering qualification (e.g. Degree) in mechanical, automotive, electrical or aerospace engineering.
- Evidence of CPD such as chartership, networking events, attending conferences or six-sigma.
- Experience working on a launch phase of a project.
- Knowledge across 1 or more core systems of an electrified product e.g. thermal, energy storage or propulsion.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Knowledge of system engineering fundamentals is essential.
- An understanding of manufacturing and quality processes or systems that confirm components/assemblies meet regulatory and or certification requirements across project sectors is essential.
- Some knowledge of JIRA, Polarion or Teamcenter would be advantageous.
