An opportunity has arisen for Engineer – Lightweight Systems to join our Mechanical Engineering team in a rapidly expanding and exciting work environment. This is a role where a project engineer/systems engineer will be responsible for the development and delivery of lightweight mechanical structures for high performance applications in a range of sectors including heavy industry, mining, rail, naval, automotive, motorsport, aviation, and defence.
Job role:
- Preparing, review, and maintain system requirements documents, SoW, functional specifications, Interface control document, system description documents, designs, DFMEA, DVP;
- Development activities including materials selection and trade-off studies (cost, time, performances);
- Planning and Scheduling: Defines, jointly with the Project Management department, commodity plan documents, schedule, issues and risk management plans;
- Apply engineering fundamentals to problems (ability to carry out hand calculations or theoretical analysis of mechanical structures, mainly metallic and composite);
- Definition and oversight of development testing and design/product validation and verification activities;
- Support the work provided by other departments within WAE or external suppliers/subcontractors;
- Create technical reports and customer documentation;
- Acts as key contact for the customer and an escalation point for project issues. Builds and maintains strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and effectively communicates with all stakeholders;
- Carry out internal Research and Development projects on composites, advanced materials, etc.
The position may require the candidate to travel and work from abroad for given periods of time
You’ll have:
- Experience in Systems Engineering / Project Engineering / Mechanical Engineering/ Composite manufacturing engineering;
- Degree or equivalent in Mechanical/Aerospace/Materials Engineering or in a relevant discipline; Master’s degree preferred;
- Ability to work both as part of a team and autonomously, whilst managing team priorities;
- Excellent communication skills, with a demonstrated experience of communicating to a variety of stakeholders.
- Solid knowledge of composite materials and experience in manufacturing methods for high volume projects;
- Demonstrated initiative in solving challenging problems under pressure;
- You will have some knowledge of being able to process data and be able to present the result in a synthetic way;
