WAE JOINS FORCES WITH FORMAPLEX FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLE RECORD ATTEMPT

Nov 20, 2014

WAE is delighted to be involved as a technical partner in the 24-hour endurance sub-500kg electric vehicle world record attempt led by Formaplex.

WAE has lent its expertise in areas such as driving dynamics and aerodynamics for this unique record attempt; skills honed by competing in the highest levels of global motorsport for over four decades. WAE has used its Computational Fluid Dynamics capability on the external body shape to help reduce drag and improve the centre of lift. The company has also worked on the dynamics of the electric vehicle which has involved optimising its suspension layout and setup for improved efficiency and vehicle stability. This project is another addition to WAE’s growing credentials in developing high performing electric vehicles. The company developed the batteries that power the cars competing in Formula E, the world’s first fully electric racing series, and helped develop the hybrid C-X75 super car with Jaguar Land Rover.

Ian Wilson Composites Director of Formaplex said; “It’s great to have WAE on board and we’re looking forward to working with them. Combining our expertise and experience in pursuit of the world electric car endurance record is an exciting prospect”

Craig Wilson, Managing Director of WAE, added; “Williams has a proven track record of getting more output from less input following the hybridisation of Formula One. Through our Advanced Engineering division we are now specialising in improving the energy efficiency of high performing products and have worked on a range of road cars for OEM’s and racing cars in series such as Formula E and endurance racing. Formaplex’s world record attempt is pushing EV technology to its extremes and we are delighted to be involved in helping them break new ground.”
